Abstract
Description
Σύνθεση με βάση το Δίκταμο κατά του βακτηρίου Ακανθαμοέμπα που προσβάλει τους οφθαλμούς Composition based on Dictam against the bacterium Acanthamoeba that affects the eyes
Our formulation is based on the Dictamos Herb which, after appropriate treatment, is mixed with a contact lens storage/maintenance solution for its final form.
The microbe Acanthamoeba is very dangerous when it infects the eyes it causes an infection and can even cause blindness. It mainly appears in contact lenses and in their storage/maintenance areas (cases). Treatment is difficult and with an unknown success rate.
The advantage of our invention is that our composition is not chemical and does not contain drugs, as it is based on an herb that grows in the mountains of Crete and has proven effects of neutralizing the microbe, after experiments in laboratories in Scotland.
In Figure 1, the method and the result of the study by the University of Scotland, regarding the treatment of the bacterium, is reported.
They used 2 types of the bacterium (Acanthamoeba castellanii(70) and Acanthamoeba polyphaga(71)) with 5 extracts from Dictamo at a stock concentration of 100 mg/ml respectively in Dimethyl Sulfoxide. The drugs were diluted and used to detect the 2 types of Acanthamoeba. 10 two-fold dilutions of each fraction were prepared in triplicate across the plate and to each were added 2x105 (A. castellanii) and 8x104 (A. polyphaga) trophozoites cultured in glucose Peptone medium at 23 degrees C. The plates were incubated for 4 days and the viability using the Blue alamar (indicator for metabolic cell function) test. Finally, fraction 4 was shown to be the most effective at neutralizing both 70 and 71.
In liquid form, it is particularly effective for those who wear contact lenses or swim in pools where the risk of infection is much greater. To combat Acanthamoeba, all that is needed is the addition of our solution to both the contact lenses and the lens storage area. Therefore, treatment in a natural way, without side effects that usually contain pharmaceutical treatments. It can be manufactured in different forms depending on the requirements of the trade e.g. cream or liquid solution.
Our invention based on the Dictamo herb is characterized by mixing it, ground in powder form, with a contact lens storage/maintenance solution, in a ratio of 1mg to 2ml solution with a 5% percentage of the herb with approximately the same effectiveness.
For an ideal formulation, add 5mg of Dictam in powder form to 10ml of contact lens storage/maintenance solution and mix for the final product.
