Abstract

1. Hydraulic piston-type rail brake for braking railway carriages, having a damper (7) comprising telescopic elements (8, 9) which is mounted in a bearing tube (14) provided with at least one ventilation opening (37) and which can be actuated by a wheel (5) of a railway carriage, the bearing tube (14) being fixed, preferably directly, to a rail (2) of the track, by means of a holder (20), characterised in that the telescopic elements (8, 9) are arranged at a radial spacing in a guide tube (12) which is closed off at the top by a cap (6), the guide tube (12) being mounted in axially movable manner in the bearing tube (14), one of the telescopic elements (8, 9) being releasably connected to the cap (6) whilst the other telescopic element (9) is supported by the bearing tube (14).
