Abstract

1,2,3,4,6,7,12,12b-Octahydro- indolo(2,3-a)quinolizine-1 il-propionoc acid (II) is transformed into an anhydride at low temp. in an inert organic solvent in the presence of an acid binding agent. Reaction mixture is then heated to produce octahydro-1,7a-(1-oxo-pro pano) -inolo(2,3a)quinolonine (I), where R is 1-4C atom alkyl group. Salts can be pptd.with acids.
