During the prepn. of triphenyl-alkenes:(I) dehydration of alkanols takes place by a reaction between triphenylalkanols and N,N'-sulphinyl-diimidazole. In (I) X is a halogen atom or 1-4C atom contg. alkoxy group and R is an alkyl group of 1-6C atoms.
