Abstract

Rendering wastes harmless of wastes is achieved by biodegradation. A nutrient is prepared from animal manure or agricultural or industrial by-products of plant origin and is mixed or layered with waste products. The mixt. which heats up naturally to 20-70 deg.C is allowed to mature for 1-4 months. The composted material is used for soil maintenance or improvement with ot without other soil improving additives. - The nutrient contains at least 30 vo. % of animal manure or plant byproducts and water. The composting mixture consists of 1-30 vol.% of waste and 70-99 vol.% nutrient. Animal manure can consist of cattle, pig or poultry solid excrement or manure contg. such. Usable plant byproducts are straw, cornstalks, tree-leaves, sugar-beet or turnip tops and leaves, sawdust, fresh seed wastes or peat.
