Abstract
HUT045488 Betaine of formula (I) N-(fatty acid acyl- amino-propyl)-N,N-dimethyl-N- carboxy-methyl-ammonium -betaine, is prepd. in aq. medium at 80-100 deg.C from a cpd. of general formula (II), a N-(fatty acid -acylamino- propyl)-N,N-dimethyl -amine and 0-5 mol.% excess of chloroacetic acid in the presence of 1-5 mol.% of a weak organic, pref. acetic acid (mol.% - are based on cpd. (II)). Following the combination of cpd. (II), chloro-acetic acid and acetic acid, sodium hydroxide is added stepwise to neutralise the chloroacetic acid.
