Abstract

Easily decomposed pharmaceuticals are coated for protection against moisture and oxygen. Based on 100 pts. wt. powdered pharmaceuticals, 2-20 pts. wt. of vinyl-pyrrolidone:vinyl-acetate (6:4) copolymer are dissolved in an organic solvent, pref. in dichloro-methane, ethyl-alcohol or iso-propyl-alcohol. This soln. contains 0.5-50% solids and is applied to the granules as a spray or kneaded coating using one or several layers. The coating is dried by suitable means but pref. by fluidised bed drying to 2/3-3/4 moisture content, sieving and complete drying follows to remove all traces of solvents. Coated cpds. have a long decomposition free shelf life and are suitable for diverse uses e.g. "dry" syrup
