Abstract
1,226,103. Weft replenishing mechanism. ASSOCIATED PERFORATORS & WEAVERS Ltd. 22 April, 1968, No. 19111/67. Heading DIE. In a wire weaving loom a spent bobbin 4 is removed from the shuttle 1 and transported to a rewinding station, a new bobbin is inserted in the shuttle, the old and new weft trails are knotted together outside the shuttle and the knot is pulled through the shuttle before picking recommences. In Fig. 1 a clamp 39 clamps the old weft trail extending to the fabric, a member (not shown) places the weft around fingers 31 which are rotated to draw off weft around fingers 31 which are rotated to draw off weft from the old bobbin, a bobbin remover 8 descends and a lever 10 is pivoted to engage a bar 28 on the shuttle, the shuttle is moved axially to free the bobbin, the bobbin remover 8 rises taking with it the bobbin and then rotates to deposit the bobbin between a chuck 44 and a centre 16 of a rewinding station. The removing of the shuttle places the old weft trail through a knotting device 18 and the fingers 31 are again rotated to strip the trail from the bobbin and leave its end just above the knotter 18. The remover 8 then rotates to engage the new bobbin which is then lowered into the shuttle. Loading the new bobbin into the shuttle causes the new weft trail to pass between clamps and shears 26, 27 into the knotter 18 which is operated to knot together the old and new trails. The new trail is then severed by the shears 27 and is then correctly located for rewinding of the spent bobbin which, after rewinding, is moved by the remover 8 from the rewinding station to the full bobbin station. The knot is pulled through the shuttle, before picking, by further rotation of the fingers 31.
