Abstract

1,220,451. Greases. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 20 March, 1968 [7 April, 1967], No. 15980/67. Heading C5F. Greases are prepared by continuously passing a solid lubricant and a grinding liquid through a high energy grinding mill in the absence of air, passing the resulting slurry through a magnetic filter, blending into a Mineral or synthetic lubricating oil and removing the grinding fluid. The solid lubricant may be graphite, molybdenum or tungsten disulphide, tin sulphides or mixtures of graphite and metal sulphides, e.g. lead sulphide. The grinding liquid distils below 500‹ C., has a viscosity below 600 c.S. at 38‹ C. and a surface tension below 72 dynes/cm. at 25‹ C., eg. n-heptane, cyclohexane, toluene, carbon tetrachloride, isopropyl alcohol or silicones.
