Abstract
1,233,004. Weldable polyurethane foams. J. P. BRENNAN. 20 May, 1968 [13 June, 1967], No. 27324/67. Headings C3C, C3R and C3P. A weldable polyurethane foam of the kind based on the reaction of polyether polyols and/or polyester polyols with polyisocyanates is made by incorporating in the foam-forming composition prior to foaming a thermoplastic component which is substantially inert to the ingredients of the composition and of which at least 10% by weight is ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer. The thermoplastic component may consist of ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, or may include polyethylene, polyvinyl acetate, acrylate homopolymers and copolymers, e.g. a butyl acrylate/vinyl isobutyl ether copolymer, and/or copolymers derived from caprolactam, hexamethylene diammonium adipate, and p,p<SP>1</SP>- dicyclohexylmethane diammonium adipate. In the examples the foam-forming composition comprised a polyether polyol or polyester polyol derived from dimerized fatty acid, water, a silicone foam stabilizer, stannous octoate, toluene diisocyanate, and as catalyst dimethylaminopyridine or triethylene diamine.
