Abstract
1,197,392. Boots &c. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DU CAOUTCHOUC REGENERE. 26 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 30595/68. Heading A3B. An article of protective footwear is made by assembling an upper 2 and lining 1, the forepart of the upper 2 and lining 1 being separate from each other, forming a pocket 5 in the forepart of the lining 1 by sewing together extensions 3, 3a of the lining 1 along a seam 4, the lining 1 which forms the pocket 5 having previously been coated with a heat sensitive adhesive, placing the pocket 5 on a heated last, placing a steel toe cap 6 together with padding 7 over the pocket 5 to bond the cap 6 and padding 7 to the pocket 5, removing the assembly from the last, attaching an insole (not shown) to the edges of the upper 2, placing the assembly on the last of a moulding tool and finally directly moulding an outsole of elastomeric or plastomeric material to the asembly. The vamp 2 of the upper may be pre-formed.
