Abstract

1,197,611. Tampons. SPONCEL Ltd. 17 July, 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 33095/67. Heading A5R. [Also in Division B5] In a process for the production of regenerated cellulose sponge material in strip form, a sponge forming mixture comprising viscose paste is extruded into a flexible reinforcing outer casing such that the paste is supported by said casing, and regeneration is effected whilst the reinforced strip is maintained having a predetermined cross-section. The viscose paste may contain reinforcing fibres and pore forming crystals, e.g. of sodium sulphate. The reinforcing casing may be an impermeable film, e.g. of polypropylene, PTFE or cellulose, removable after regeneration, or a woven fabric, e.g. woven cotton stockinet, which becomes bonded to the sponge. The strip may be impregnated with medicaments, humidifying agents, deodorants, odour producing substances or preservatives. Three examples are given and a specific product mentioned is catamenial tampons. [GB1197611A]
