Abstract

N<SP>1</SP>-(1-methylallylthiocarbamoyl)-N-<SP>2</SP>-methylthio-carbamoylhydrazine (methallibure) particles are stabilized by coating substantially the whole of their surface with a water-repellant, non-toxic, orally acceptable fatty or waxy substance being a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic acid, a monodi or tri-glyceryl ester thereof, or an ester thereof with a fatty alcohol, or a fatty alcohol, or a paraffin hydrocarbon, of mpt. 30 to 120C and in which methallibure is essentially insoluble, or a mixture of such substances. The fatty or waxy substance may be a hydrogenated derivative of an oil of animal or vegetable origin e.g. hydrogenated castor, whale, ground nut or palm oil; stearic or palmitic acid; cetyl, stearyl or cetostearyl alcohols; spermacetic, Chinese wax, beeswax, paraffin or microcrystalline wax. The particles may contain from 0.5 to 10 parts by weight of fatty or waxy substance to one part by weight of methallibure. Veterinary compositions e.g. in the form of pre-mixes or medicated animal feedstuff comprises the particles together with a non-toxic diluent or carrier e.g. ground chalk, kaolin, talc or ground maize. The particles may be formed by adding powdered methallibure to the molten fatty or waxy substance, or mixture thereof, stirring and cooling the resulting mixture to form a friable mass which may be further broken up, ground and sieved to give a powder of particle size preferably below 350 microns. Alternatively powdered methallibure may be mixed with the fatty or waxy substance in powder form and the mixture is passed through a mill under conditions causing the fatty or waxy substance to melt and coat the particles of methallibure or a solution of the fatty or waxy substance in a volatile organic solvent may be sprayed on to the surface of particles of methallibure which becomes coated on evaporation of the solvent.
