Abstract

1,245,291. Feeding bottles. AMERICAN FLANGE & MFG. CO. Inc. 14 Nov., 1968 [30 Nov., 1967], No. 54116/68. Heading A5X. A feeding bottle comprises a bottle, a neck 1 on the bottle terminating in an open end, an integral finish 2 around that end, a resilient feeding nipple 14 secured to the finish, the nipple having a rounded and apertured feeding end 18, a locking ring 6 integrally formed on the neck below finish 2, and a metal sealing cap 20 restraining the nipple against its resilience in a retracted position thereof, and a tear strip 25 formed in the cap 20 allowing removal thereof enabling the nipple to assume an erect feeding position. An insert 11 below nipple 14 has a peripheral flange 12 with a plurality of apertures 13. With cap 20 in position flange 12 seals against a retaining seat portion of nipple 14 and prevents contact between the bottle contents and the nipple. The cap 20 seals against a flexible gasketing portion 16 of the nipple and provided with a centrally-positioned upwardly-protruding dimple 28 which helps to preserve the shape of the end of the nipple against which it presses when the bottle is sealed. The bottle is prepared for use by pulling a ring portion 27 of the cap upwardly so that the tear strip part 25 of the cap separates from the main part of the cap along weakened tearing lines 26 such that the nipple springs up through the opening created in the cap. The torn cap may be completely removed by continued pulling on the ring 27. [GB1245291A]
