Abstract

1,261,944. Separating liquid droplets from gas. VIRGINIA CHEMICALS Inc. 18 April, 1969 [5 July, 1968], No. 19956/69. Heading BIT. [Also in Divisions F3 and F4] A trap, whereby liquid refrigerant particles and oil which pass through evaporator (16) are separated from the refrigerant vapour upstream of compressor (12) in a refrigerator circuit (Fig. 1, not shown), comprises an upright chamber with an inlet 26 and outlet 28, wherein the vapour expands and swirls to deposit entrained liquid at the bottom of the chamber. The vapour passes to outlet 28 round a semi-cylindrical baffle 33 and there creates a Venturi effect round the upper end of tube 32, which draws deposited liquid up tube 32 and back into the vapour stream. In passing up the tube, the liquid undergoes a pressure drop which evaporates the liquid refrigerant, so only entrained oil and refrigerant vapour reach the compressor. [GB1261944A]
