Abstract
1,219,783. Polyolefin compositions. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 4 March, 1969 [19 March, 1968], No. 13234/68. Heading C3P. A polyolefinic composition containing asbestos, talc or non-metallic fillers such as silica or carbon black including metal ions as an impurity, are stabilized by incorporating into the composition a metal complexing agent. The polyolefinic composition comprises 5-50% by weight of the metal ion-containing filler and a metal complexing agent which is a compound comprising molecules, each of which includes at least two atoms selected from nitrogen, oxygen and sulphur, such atoms being separated by from one to three carbon atoms, exemplified by melamine or pentaerythritol in the form of a powder of - 20 diameter, or N-salicylidene-N- salicyl - hydrazide, para - acetamide aniline, oxanilide, oxamide and benzothiazole. The metal complexing agent amounts to 0 5-5% by weight of the polyolefin. Polyolefines specified are propylene polymers, high density ethylene polymers and propylene-ethylene copolymers. The compositions may also include specified conventional thermal and oxidative degradation stabilizers and a lubricant such as calcium or zinc stearate.
