Abstract

A solvent composition for cleaning metal and plastics articles comprises a mixture of a tetrachlorodifluoroethane and an aliphatic alcohol which is an azeotropic mixture or which boils within 1‹ C. or 2‹ C. of its azeotrope. The alcohol may be t-pentanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, tbutanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, ethanol, methanol or allyl alcohol. The tetrachlorodifluoroethane may be a mixture of tetrachloro-1,2-difluoroethane and tetrach]oro-1,1-difluoroethane. The composition is effective in cleaning magnetic tapes. Compositions boiling between 70‹ C. and 95‹ C. are preferred. [GB1206662A]
