Abstract

1,224,297. Applying adhesive tape. MOLNLYCKE, AB. 17 Nov., 1969 [19 Nov., 1968], No. 56158/69. Heading B8F. An apparatus for applying lengths of adhesive tape 30 to a moving surface 2 comprises rollers 23-26 for drawing the tape 29 from a roll 28, reversing mechanism 55, 57 and a rotatable applicator foot 14. The rector-shaped applicator foot 14 is driven from a driving shaft 8 through a lost-motion coupling at a peripheral speed slightly less than that of the surface 2, so that after it has initially applied the leading end of a severed length of tape 30 to the surface it is rotated by frictional contact with the tape to press the entire length of the tape on to the surface. Feed rollers 24, 26 are driven intermittently from the shaft 8 by way of a crank and one-way clutch drive. Friction in the oneway clutch causes the rollers to be given a slight reverse rotation during reverse movement of the crank arm to an extent permitted by play between abutments of a friction brake provided on the output side of the one-way clutch. This slight reverse movement of the feed rollers prevents the leading edge of the unsevered tape from adhering to the reversing mechanism 55, 57. The reversing mechanism has a stationary blade 55 and a pivoted blade 57 which is actuated by a cam on the driving shaft. [GB1224297A]
