A ferrous, zinciferous or aluminium surface is formed with a phosphate coating by contacting with a solution containing zinc phosphate, a phosphating accelerator, and 0À005 to 1À0% based on the weight of the phosphating solution of an acid radical derived from peroxy disulphuric acid, peroxy diphosphoric acid, peroxy diboric acid or peroxy dicarbonic acid. The accelerator may be alkali metal or ammonium nitrite, hydrogen peroxide, or alkali metal nitrates or chlorates. [GB1272772A]
