Abstract
1,200,860. Explosive compositions. CANADIAN INDUSTRIES Ltd. 9 Sept., 1969 [7 Oct., 1968], No. 44436/69. Heading ClD. An aqueous slurry explosive composition comprises an inorganic oxygen-supplying salt, an aqueous solvent or carrier for the salt, a fuel, and a thickener comprising cross-linked galactomannan and psyllium flour in a weight ratio of 1: 20 to 5 : 1. The inorganic salt may be ammonium, Na, K, Ba or Ca nitrate. Fuels referred to are powdered Al, Al alloy, Si, ferrosilicon, ferrophosphorus, coal, or carbon, wood meal, sugar, ground nut husks, urea, hydrocarbon oil, TNT, PETN, RDX, composition B, pentolite, smokeless powder, nitrocellulose, and nitrostarch. The aqueous solvent or carrier may comprise, in addition to water, formamide, dimethyl sulphoxide, or a lower glycol or alcohol. The galactomannan may be guar gum, locust bean gum, honey locust gum, gum gatto, Kentucky coffee bean gum and Tara and Paloverde gums; suitable cross-linking agents are sodium and potassium dichromate and potassium pyroantimonate. Other additives specified are zinc nitrate, zinc chromate, fumaric acid, ethylene glycol, potassium antimony tartrate, ammonium lignosulphonate, trichloroethylene, and 2- ethyl hexanol. The composition is waterresistant, non-tacky, does not segregate, and has improved fluidity.
