Abstract

1,266,351. Beverage containers. ARTHUR GUINNESS SON & CO. (DUBLIN) Ltd. 21 Jan., 1970 [27 Jan., 1969], No. 4370/69. Headings B8C and BSD. When a container 10, containing an aerated beverage under pressure is broached, gas under pressure in a subsidiary compartment 11 vents through a jet orifice 13 into the beverage. The gas may be. a mixture of carbon dioxide and nitrogen. A self sealing grommet 15 is used to seal the compartment 11. In a second embodiment (Fig. 4), the subsidiary compartment (22) is formed between a large diameter wall (24) and the container-base, the wall (24) being secured at its edge to the base and having a downwardly directed dimple (25) in which the jet orifice (26) is formed. When the container is sealed, gas pressure urges the wall (24) downwardly to push the dimple (25) against a rubber grommet (27) in the base. When the container is broached, the pressure in the-subsidiary compartment (22) lifts the dimple (25) off the grommet (27) to allow gas to flow through the orifice (26). In a third embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2) the container is a bottle and the subsidiary compartment is formed in an extension of a bottle cap which extends to a position below the beverage-level.
