Abstract
1,230,521. Clothes-lines. GEORGE SALTER & CO. Ltd. 24 Dec., 1969 [2 Jan., 1969], No. 200/69. Heading A4U. In a clothes-line device having extensible lines 56 secured at one end to an anchorage bar 60, and at the other end to a roller 21 which is journalled in end walls of a wall-mounted casing 10 and urged by a coal spring 22 to retract the lines to an out-of-use position coiled on the roller, one end of the roller is supported by a journal member 27 rotatably mounted in a fixed annular bearing 19 having spaced peripheral notches 36 in any one of which a locking slide 51 on the journal member 27 is engageable to lock the roller against rotation and tension the extended clothes-line. The slide has a finger-grip portion 54, a foot portion (52) slidable in a diametral dove-tail groove (50) in the journal member 27, and a locking lug 53. During assembly the roller 20 is rotated relatively to the journal member 27 to give the spring 22 an initial tension before rigidly securing the roller and member together by the engagement of lugs 30 in notches 31 in the end of the roller. In modifications, the lines are formed by a single line secured at intervals to the roller, or a dovetail section groove in the slide engages a dove-tail section rib on the journal member 27.
