Abstract

1303327 Sizing extruded tubes S BEYER 22 April 1970 [24 April 1969] 19308/70 Heading B5A Tubular thermoplastics extrudate 1, is sized by drawing through a plurality of plates 3, provided with sizing openings (which may be of progressively decreasing size) which are located partially or completely along a rectangular chamber 2 which is subjected to vacuum at 16, is sealed at its inlet and outlet by elastic discs 12, and along the four sides of which extend pipes 5 from which liquid coolant, which may contain wetting and lubricating additives, or comprise metal working emulsions, are sprayed on to the tubular extrudate 1. The coolant is circulated from chamber sump 6 through a system 10 including a pump 8 and heat exchanger 9, and a chamber inlet 11 is provided for topping up the system with both liquid and gaseous coolants. The extrudate may comprise a square section tube 1, the interior whereof is at atmospheric pressure, and where a flange 13 extends outwardly therefrom this is sized against the plates 3 by a continuously extending chamber 14, which is pressurized either from the system 10 or other pressure means.
