Abstract
1304254 H 2 SO 4 purification INVENTA AG 15 June 1970 [16 June 1969] 28903/70 Heading C1A 55-85% w/w H 2 SO 4 is treated with halide ions and, if necessary, an oxidizing agent to convert metals and semi metals into anionic halo complexes which are removed by treatment with an anionic exchanger. Halide ions may be provided by addition of HCl or NH 4 Cl and a 10-200 times excess may be used. The starting acid is preferably 75-80% H 2 SO 4 and the process is especially useful for the removal of iron. The ion exchanger may be regenerated by treating with < 50% w/w H 2 SO 4 . A continuous process is envisaged using a plurality of columns in series, individual columns being isolated and regenerated as they become exhausted.
