1295108 Shampoo COLGATE-PALMOLIVE CO 17 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 34825/70 Heading C5D A single phase liquid shampoo comprises (a) a higher alkyl (C 10-20 ) amine oxide, (b) an amphoteric detergent containing a C 7-20 alkyl group, (c) a cationic detergent containing a quaternary ammonium group and a C 10-24 hydrophobic radical, (d) 0À5-5% of an animal oil, non-drying or semi-drying vegetable oil, mineral oil or synthetic oil and (e) an aqueous vehicle and has a pH of at least 5. The amine oxide may be of formula in which R 1 is C 10-20 alkyl and R 2 and R 3 are separately C 1-4 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl or together with the nitrogen atom represent a morpholino group. The amphoteric detergent may be of formula in which R 1 is as above, R 4 is C 1-4 alkylene or hydroxyalkylene, R 5 is a C 7-17 acyclic group, R 6 is C 8-18 alkyl, R 7 and R 8 are C 1-3 alkyl, M is H, Na, K, NH 4 or alkanolammonium and X is COO or SO 3 . The cationic detergent may be of formula where R 9 is C 10-24 alkyl or alkenyl, R 10 is C 1-3 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl, R 11 is C 1-3 alkyl or hydroxyalkyl or benzyl and Z is Cl, Br, phosphate, dialkyl phosphate, methosulphate or acetate. In an example, the shampoo comprises myristyl dimethylamine oxide, tallow amidopropyl dimethyl hydroxyethyl ammonium chloride, N- lauryl beta-alanine, N-myristyl beta-alanine, lauryl diethanolamide, myristyl diethanolamide, soluble protein, anhydrous citric acid, light mineral oil, olive oil, caustic soda, deionized water, dyes, perfumes, stabilizers and preservatives.
