Abstract
Penicillanic acid derivs. of formula (I) : (where R1 and R2 = an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, a mono- or bi-cyclic aryl residue, aralkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, a heterocyclic or heterocyclic substd. alkyl gp., or R1R2N = a heterocyclic residue and R4 = H, alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, haloalkyl, O-alkyl, alkanoyl, aroyl, CN, CO2 alkyl or acyloxymethyl) and salts of (I), are antibacterials of low toxicity. (I) are prepd. by condensing (a) 6-aminopenicillanic acid (II) with a reactive amide or thioamide deriv. : R1R2NCH=R5, or (b) a reactive deriv. of (III) with an amine R1R2NH.
