Abstract
1,256,047. Electroless plating of plastics. SCHERING-A G. Sept. 9, 1970 [Sept. 25, 1969], No. 43156/70. Heading C7F. A plastics e.g. a.b.s. or modified polypropylene, surface is activated with a solution containing 20 to 40% (by weight) H 2 SO 4 , 15 to 30% chromic acid and 0À001 to 1% of a noble metal, e.g. Pd, Pt, Au or Ag as a sulphate, nitrate or acetate. The surface may be subsequently reduced with formaldehyde, alkali metal hypophosphites or boranates or hydrazine hydrate. The surface may be subsequently Cu or Ni plated in the following baths (g./l.) (1) 10 CuSO 4 , SH 2 O, 16 potassiumsodium tartrate, 16 sodium hydroxide, 8 paraformaldehyde, and 0À005 rhodanine, (2) 30 nickel sulphate, 10 sodium hypophosphite, and 50 citric acid.
