Abstract
1306398 Polymerization catalyst SOLVAY & CIE 30 Oct 1970 [8 Nov 1969] 51720/70 Heading C3P A catalyst for the polymerization or copolymerization of olefins comprises (a) a halogen-containing transition metal compound, (b) an aluminium-diene oligomer as defined in Specification 1306397 and (c) a solid support The support may be a polymer having electrondonor groups, e.g. hydroxyl or other oxygencontaining groups, nitrogen atoms or carboncarbon double bonds, or a compound of a bivalent metal having oxygen atoms and/or hydroxyl groups chemically bound to the surface. In the examples component (a) is TiCl 4 , (b) is an oligomer produced by reaction of AI(i-Bu) 2 Et with isoprene, Al(i-Bu 2 )(n-octyl) with isoprene, or Al(i-Bu) 2 (n-Bu) with isoprene or butadiene, and (c) is MgO, Mg(OEt) 2 , Mg(OPh) 2 or the reaction product of AlEtCl 2 and Mg(OEt) 2 . These catalysts are used to polymerize ethylene.
