Micro-organism cultures are contacted with small amounts of the gaseous oxides of nitrogen exemplified by nitrous oxide, nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide, and mixtures of nitrous oxide with nitrogen dioxide. Examples are directed to the cultivation of specified bacteria, Rhodotorula, Penicillium and F. mucor. The gaseous oxides of nitrogen were applied diluted in helium (or air). [GB1274792A]
