1379786 Pyridone derivatives ABIC Ltd 5 April 1972 [14 April 1971 11 Nov 1971] 15582/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds I in which R 1 and R 2 are optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or benzyl radicals and R is a phenyl radical which may be substituted with a group IV and/or by one or more of alkyl, alkoxy, NO 2 , Cl, F and dialkylamino are prepared by reaction of a pyrene III with an amine RNH 2 . Prior to reaction with the amine transesterification of the pyrene may be effected to alter the nature of a group R 1 or R 2 , or saponification of the pyrene followed by esterification of the resulting acid may be carried out.
