Abstract
1393787 Asbestos-cement pipes; coating EVERITUBE 18 April 1972 [21 April 1971] 17946/72 Heading F2P [Also in Division B2] A method of producing asbestos-cement products e.g. pipes, comprises after forming the products applying on all the faces of the product a waterproof coating at a moment before the end of hardening and after the start of setting, as soon as the products have a dimensional stability sufficient to permit handling and so long as the amount of water contained in the products permits optimum hydration of the products. As shown pipes are formed on a mandrel at 1, passed into a hardening stove 2, immersed in a tank of water 3, cut and machined at 4, 5 and fed to coating station 6. The coating is applied as soon as any surface water has evaporated. For applying the coating e.g. bitumen, coal tar or pitch, the tube T<SP>1</SP> is supported on rollers 8 at coating station 6 which consists of a carriage 10 mounted for reciprocating motion and having tubes 11, 12 extending therefrom and having at their ends nozzles 15. The tubes 11, 12 communicate with reservoirs 16, 17 in the carriage, the reservoirs being fed by conduits 18, 19 connected by flexible conduit 20 to a fixed tank 21 maintained under gaseous pressure. The tube is rotated on rollers 8 and the carriage reciprocated to apply coating material to the inside and outside surfaces of the tube.
