Abstract
1349537 Microcapsules IMPERIAL TOBACCO GROUP Ltd 19 April 1972 [25 May 1971] 16850/71 Heading B8C [Also in Division A2] Microencapsulated menthol, used for flavouring cigarettes (see Division A2), is made by emulsifying a mixture of menthol dissolved in maize oil with an aqueous, acetic acid acidified, solution of gelatine at 40 C., mixing an aqueous gum acacia solution with the so formed emulsion, slowly diluting the mixture with water and then cooling it to 27 C. while stirring, and then hardening the resultant slurried microcapsules by the addition of glutaraldehyde. It was found that a pH of 4-2 for the mixture of the gum acacia with the emulsion was critical for subsequent successful encapsulation.
