Abstract

1389330 Data processing systems DIGITAL EQUIPMENT CORP 5 May 1972 [7 May 1971] 21108/72 Heading G4A A wired program data processor includes a bi-directional bus 40 having control and data sections 44, 42, control units such as 22, 24, 26 connected in series and having control inputs from bus 44, and data units such as 46, 48 connected to the data bus. Certain control units, when energized in the series sequence, select one or more data units which respond by transmitting data on to the bus and causing a "data ready" signal to be generated. Coincidence of "data ready" and "select" signals cause data units to recive data from the bus and generate a "data accepted" signal which in turn produces a "done" signal to trigger the next control unit. In operation, a multi-bit number entered in input register 38 is transferred to register 1 by control unit 22 and thence to arithmetic unit 46 by control unit 24, an exemplary sequence of operation which follow being indicated by the legends in the control unit boxes. A branching unit 30 in conjunction with a bus sensing unit 28 enables conditional branches to be made, e.g. when the data on the bus is zero. [GB1389330A]
