1359108 Pregna-4,6-dieno-[3,2-c]pyrazoles MERCK & CO Inc 24 July 1972 [30 July 1971] 34515/72 Headings C2U and C2C The novel 2<SP>1</SP>-(4-pyridyl)-6,16α-dimethyl-20- oxo - 11#,17α,21 - trihydroxy - pregna - 4,6- dieno[3,2-c]-pyrazole is prepared by reacting 4- hydrazino-pyridine with 2-hydroxymethylene- 6,16α - dimethyl - 11# - hydroxy - 17,20 : 20,21- bismethylenedioxy - pregna - 4,6 - dien - 3 - one to produce the novel 2<SP>1</SP>-(4-pyridyl)-6,16a-dimethyl - 11# - hydroxy - 17,20 : 20,21 - bismethylenedioxy - pregna - 4,6 - dieno[3,2-c]- pyrazole and then reacting this with an acidic hydrolysing agent. 4 - Hydrazino - pyridine hydrochloride is prepared by reacting 4-chloropyridine with benzoyl hydrazine to give an N-(4-pyridyl)benzhydrazide of m.p. 225-231 C. and then hydrolysing this with hydrochloric acid. The novel trihydroxy-steroid is an antiinflammatory agent, and it may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
