Abstract

1367113 Slide valves for metallurgical ladles USS ENGINEERS & CONSULTANTS Inc 14 Sept 1971 [23 Sept 1970] 42824/71 Heading F4B In a sliding gate nozzle for a ladle, tundish &c. in which a blank gate 24 and an orifice gate 25 are slid on turn in flanges 23 on rails 16 below a pouring nozzle 13, the operating mechanism comprises a fluid motor 34 with piston 35 attached to a ram block 36, pull links 40 attached to said ram block and pivoted to a gate latch 41 at the other end. At the end of the piston stroke a socket 43 of the latch engages a yoke 42 pivoted to the rails 16 and is thereby lifted upwardly to enable replacement of a gate. The blank gate24 is replaced by first removing the orifice gate 25, retracting the piston 35, filling the space so formed with a dummy gate (44, Fig. 6) operating the piston and replacing the blank gate.
