Abstract

1392513 Bolts H BRANDER 18 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 33566/72 Heading F2H A bolt shank is formed by rolling, with a threaded portion 2 and a portion 3 having alternate peripheral beads 10 and grooves 11. The bead crests and groove bottoms are circular arcs in profile, and are tangential to the sides of the grooves. The beads 10 and the threaded portion 2 have the same external diameter d, except for one bead (7), (Fig. 2, not shown) which is formed with an external diameter (d 5 ) greater than d, and is subsequently ground to an intermediate diameter (d 6 ) to fit a centring bore in a workpiece. The beads may be knurled or serrated. The specification includes formulae interrelating the various dimensions of the grooves and beads. [GB1392513A]
