Abstract
1414002 Pressure scanning skid TED BILDPLATTEN AG AEG-TELEFUNKEN TELDEC 21 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971 19 Nov 1971] 43818/72 Heading G5R The wear on a diamond skid for pressure scanning topographic modulation in a groove of a video disc record is reduced by forming the skid such that the engagement surface is formed at least in part from the natural surface of a diamond crystal. The skid can be formed from octahedron 3 by using the flattened off peak, presenting a cubic surface (001), as the engagement surface flanked by octahedral surfaces (111) and (111) and with ends in the direction of relative movement between skid and record defined by octahedral surfaces (111) and (111). In use the engagement surface is inclined to the direction of relative motion. In the construction described with reference to Figs. 4a-4c (not shown) the engagement surface is a dodecahedral chamfer between two octahedral surfaces and in the Fig. 5, 6a and 6b arrangement (not shown) the engagement surface is a dodecahedral chamfer between two cubic surfaces. The diamond crystals can be natural or synthetic. Wear resistance can be chemically improved by doping the diamond with nitrogen or boron or by using a boron oxide protective layer or by a siloxal layer. In this last arrangement silicon is first diffused into the diamond and this is then oxidized to produce a silicon dioxide layer.
