Abstract

1426047 Bottling VICKERS Ltd 1 March 1973 [1 March 1972] 9647/72 Heading B8T A filling head for a bottle filling apparatus has a supporting block 1<SP>1</SP> with an aperture 2 for receiving the neck of a bottle 3, and a supporting block 4<SP>1</SP> with filling tube 5<SP>1</SP> that makes a seal contact 9 with the block 1<SP>1</SP>. The filling tube 5<SP>1</SP>, extends through a bore 6 in block 1<SP>1</SP> to enter the bottle 3, and has an outer wall defining a passage 12<SP>1</SP> with upper and lower ports 12B<SP>1</SP> and 12A<SP>1</SP>. Pressurized gas is supplied to the bottle via passages 7<SP>1</SP> and bore 6, and escapes via ports 12A<SP>1</SP>, 12B<SP>1</SP> and passage 8<SP>1</SP>. Liquid entering through filling tube 5<SP>1</SP> rises in the bottle until it reaches the port 12A<SP>1</SP> when gas can no longer escape through the passage 8<SP>1</SP>. A chamber 13 provides a predetermined volume of gas in communication with the interior of the bottle which minimizes disturbance to liquid entering the bottle. [GB1426047A]
