1394499 Process for 2,5-disubstituted-benzoic acids SOC D'ETUDES SCIENTIFIQUES ET INDUSTRIELLES DE L'ILE-DE-FRANCE 29 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25404/73 Heading C2C Compounds (I) where A and B are C 1 to C 5 alkyl or C 1 to C 5 alkenyl are prepared by (a) alkylating p-bromophenol, (b) treating the p-bromo-(alkoxy or alkenyloxy)-benzene obtained by step (a) with a cuprous thiolate (BSCu), (c) oxidizing the p- (alkyl or alkenyl)thio-(alkoxy or alkenyloxy)- benzene obtained by step (b) to give the corresponding sulphone, (d) nitrating the sulphone to give a corresponding 2,5-disubstituted-nitro-benzene, which is reduced to the corresponding amine, (e) converting the amine to the corresponding nitrile by diazotization (Sandmeyer) and (f) hydrolysing the nitrile.
