1387366 Cable joint INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 18 June 1973 [24 June 1972] 28885/73 Heading H2E To insulate a joint in single core cable in which the ends of the cables, having had their metal sheaths 10, 10<SP>1</SP> cut back to allow semiconducting stress relief cones 13, 13<SP>1</SP> to be slipped on, letting the impregnated paper insulated ends 12, 12<SP>1</SP> project towards each other with their based tip portions 17, 17<SP>1</SP> interconnected by metal clamping member 18, a longitudinally split tubular insulator 2 is separated from the cables and from the metal joint casing 26 by perforated insulating spaces 19, 19<SP>1</SP>, 25, 25<SP>1</SP> The outer spacers, slipped over the cables before jointing, retain the split halves 22, 23 of tube 2 together. The outer casing is welded to the cable sheaths at 33, 33<SP>1</SP> and the circumferential seam 29 is welded; melted insulating compound is then poured in to fill all voids via ports 30, 30<SP>1</SP>. A further insulating sleeve may be added outside casing 26.
