Abstract
1417070 Polymerisation catalyst SNAMPROGETTI SpA 23 May 1973 [26 May 1972] 24691/73 Heading B1E [Also in Divisions C3 C5 and C7] Unsaturated compounds are polymerised by contact with an initiator obtained by passing an electric current via a transition metal cathode and aluminium anode through a liquid medium substantially free of water, subsequently reversing the polarities and stopping the current. In examples the liquid medium is 1, 2-dichloroethane containing tetrabutyl ammonium chloride and ethylene which is to be polymerised. The transition metals used are Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni and Cu. After passing various amounts of currents in each direction and allowing polymerisation to proceed butene-1, oily and solid polymers are recovered.
