Abstract

1374434 Making boxes AIRFIX INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 57869/71 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] Box blanks, which may be as shown in Figs. 1 or 5, or may be similar to Fig. 1, but shaped to form a conical container (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), are bent to U-shape and pass to a cavity tool into which a core tool is inserted and the assembled blank is secured in position by injection moulding of material to form seams. The blanks may be formed from a sheet of strip material la from a reel, be separated by a guillotine, and have folding creases on the surface which is to be the outside of the box. Wheels 22 and a roller feed the blanks to a guideway 11 where lips 13 retain the blanks to U-shape. Guides 18, 19, retain the blank as the core tool 17 descends into the cavity tool and jacks 20 retract these guides as the core tool approaches the top of the cavity tool. When the box sides are overlapped the innermost edge may be folded back to prevent wicking. The cavity tool may be recessed to allow for beads to be formed at the top and bottom of the box and for reinforcing ribs. [GB1374434A]
