1440917 Ortho-hydroxyphenyl benzyl ketoximes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972 23 Feb 1973 19 June 1973] 39703/72 8991/73 and 29003/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formula wherein the oxime group is in the anti-configuration with respect to the hydroxyl group; X is hydrogen, halogen, or an electron-withdrawing group and R<SP>1</SP> is a C 3 to C 18 alkyl or alkoxy group and R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, or optionally substituted alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, alkenoxy or aryloxy group. They may be prepared by reacting a ketone of the formula with hydroxylamine. The compounds of the invention form complexes with metals and may be used to extract metal values from aqueous solutions.
