Abstract

1347821 Multiple moulding of lenses ASHLAND OPTICAL CORP 5 June 1972 [4 June 1971] 26064/72 Heading B5A A plurality of optical plastics lenses are cast simultaneously in apparatus comprising at least four optical mould elements, a resilient holder having groove formations to engage the periphery of, and thereby position, the mould elements spaced from one another to define mould cavities therebetween, a rigid holder engaging the exterior of the resilient holder to prevent distortion thereof, and an aperture extending through the holders to supply moulding material. As shown in Fig. 1, mould elements 11 are placed in grooves 12 in resilient holder 13 having a slit 15 therein, holder 13 being held in rigid holder 14 having a lower half 16, upper half or cover 17 pivoted thereto at 22 and ends 18, 19. Gaskets 16a, 16b, 18a, 19a are provided. Cover 17 has holes 17a, 17b, one of which serves to supply moulding material, the other acting as a vent during filling. After assembly, parts 16, 17 are closed, latched at 33, 36 and tightened by knobs (37). Moulding material is supplied through aperture 17a or 17b and slit 15 and the assembly placed in an oven to set the thermosetting plastics material. [GB1347821A]
