Abstract

1416545 Wire fencing J F GILBERT 21 Nov 1972 53794/72 Heading E1B [Also in Division D1] A mesh structure comprises parallel flexible longitudinal members 1 and transverse members 2 some or preferably all of which are in the form of struts which exhibit a degree of flexibility but which are stiffer than the longitudinal members, members 1 and 2 being permanently joined together, so that when the mesh is under longitudinal tension a transverse displacement of one longitudinal member is transmitted by the struts 2 to the other longitudinal members 1, so that they maintain their parallel relationship. Preferably the struts are #" diameter high density polyethylene of sufficient rigidity not to buckle when a force is applied axially in one direction and counteracted by tension in longitudinal members 2. The members 2 comprise filaments or twines of synthetic plastics material. Both struts 2 and members 1 may include electrically conducting wire filaments. The longitudinal members may be joined to the struts by injecting heated plastics into moulds placed about their intersections. Alternatively the struts are formed by moulding whilst the preformed longitudinal members are in place. A fence is obtained by tensioning the mesh between posts 3. The relative rigidity of the struts ensures that the effective height of the fence is not decreased by a rise in the terrain as at 5. The fence may be electrified. [GB1416545A]
