Abstract
1417080 Process for benzoylating indoles TROPON GmbH [trading as TROPONWERKE DINKLAGE & CO] 23 Nov 1973 [25 Nov 1972] 54400/73 Heading C2C A process for making compounds of formula wherein R is PhCH 2 - or PhCH 2 O 2 CCH 2 - and X is H, or one or more halogen atoms or functional groups, comprises reacting together in an inert solvent at #100‹ C., the corresponding N-unsubstituted indole and benzoyl chloride, with formation of free HCl. The products may be hydrogenolysed to the corresponding acids, i.e. analogues having otherwise the above structure but containing -CH 2 CO 2 H or -CH 2 CO 2 CH 2 CO 2 H in the 3-position of the indole nucleus.
