Abstract

1479172 Removing solvents from protein materials ASTRA PROTEIN PRODUCTS AB 13 Sept 1974 [14 Sept 1973] 40083/74 Heading C3H Solvents are removed from protein materials in a process wherein the protein material is brought into contact with air containing water, the temperature and relative humidity of the air being such that enough energy is available for vapourization of the solvent from the protein material at the same time as water is condensed from the air and replaces the amount of solvent vapourized from the protein material. The protein material may be brought into contact with the air in a continuous manner in a vertical column, the protein and air being contacted in countercurrent flow, the column being heated to a temperature which is below the temperature of the air introduced. Preferably the air is introduced at more than one level in the column, best results being obtained when the air entering the top half of the column has a higher temperature than that in the lower half.
