Abstract

A foodstuff or feedstuff product particularly suitable for cats and dogs, which has (i) a base, containing protein-containing and/or flour-like materials, and (ii) at least one water-soluble material which is suitable for reducing the water activity in the product to below 0.88, the product having a moisture content in the range from 15 to 45% by weight, is produced by, in sequential steps, (a) processing the protein-containing and/or flour-like materials to give a base having a moisture content which is lower than that of the end product, and (b) then applying to the base an aqueous system which contains water-soluble material or water-soluble materials and enough water so that the moisture content of the end product is increased to the desired level. The product has a soft moist texture and is stable under ambient conditions. [GB1497090A]
