Abstract

Schistosomes obtained by perfusion from blood of infected animals are kept alive for several hours in a sterile physiologically tolerated aqueous saline solution which is free of protein and essentially of nitrogen. In this way a large proportion of host-specific material is removed from them. The schistosomes purified in this way provide somatic antigens of increased specificity for detecting bilharzia in vitro. [GB1478082A]
