Abstract
1505544 Electric cables NKF KABEL BV 20 June 1975 [28 June 1974] 26331/75 Heading H1A A method of manufacturing a watertight telecommunications cable having a sheath and a core of synthetic-resin insulated conductors comprises introducing into the cable core and the space around said core a silicone rubber compound (e.g. silastic RTM) which vulcanizes at ambient temperature by the action of moisture and applying around the core and silicone rubber compound a tightly fitting insulating sheath (e.g. by extrusion). The compound may be introduced in lengths of about 10 cm at 1 metre intervals or in the case of a multilayer core may be applied between layers during manufacture of the core. The cable made by the method may be wound on drums and the watertight compound does not flow upon heating. The insulating sheath may be removed by hand from the silicone rubber for the purposes of making an electrical connection.
